Gravel, mud and potholes.

Our day started out with trying to find a heritage site that we once came upon...Caleb Pike Heritage Park. Here we came upon a family of deer. They certainly were very tame and not photo shy.

We then ventured through the Highlands and came across a fence that is entirely made up of skis...pretty cool idea. You may want to click on this one to enlarge it as It was done as a panoramic shot.

Next it was off to Goldstream Park to see if the salmon run had started but there were only a few salmon trying to get upstream to lay their eggs. I asked one of the rangers when is the best viewing this year at they seem to be late and it will be about the 2nd week of November. It was a wonderful crisp sunny morning for a walk through the park. The colors of the trees, the leaves falling off of the trees into a mound on the ground.

Next it was over the Malahat and a quick stop for lunch at Tim Hortons for a bowl of chili and a hot coffee. Continuing on with our journey we headed to the back roads of Duncan where we took a few photos of the old railway station there. It's not in use anymore but for some reason photos of railway tracks is always nice to photograph.

Next stop was Youbo at the end of Lake Cowichan. Here we were going to take the back road over to the South side of the Lake and head back home. The road wasn't very good as it is a logging road but we had done this trip before and knew it wasn't to far until we got to the turnoff.... NOT SO......somehow we didn't see the turn-off or someone had taken down the sign and after travelling about 50 kms. on a gravel road full of potholes and mud and no other cars we knew we had gone wrong. Finally we decided it was about time to turn around before it got dark...so off we went and this time we found the right road we should have taken. Luckily we are both adventurous! We forgot our GPS at home because Jean had updated it on the computer and forgot to put it back in the car....I don't think it would have helped us anyway because we were way out of range for a signal.

By the time we reached Victoria is was almost dark and we had to go and get a carwash still as the mud was just caked on the car........at the end of the day we both just laughed and said what a fun day we had!
